We focus on student effort and quality of work. Effort can be applied in many different areas throughout the day and through the school year. Because student effort is perhaps the most valuable resource we have in school, I wish to design lessons and activities that will develop & utilize this resource wisely.
As Ron Berger of EL Education (formerly Expeditionary Learning) says of a child's education,
"When a student finishes her school and goes on to her adult life, she will be judged for the rest of her life, not by standardized test scores but by two things: the quality of her character and the quality of her work."
In addition to academic progress, I also emphasize these important areas:
- behavior and citizenship
- participation, team work, collaboration
- project craftsmanship
- quality project and assignment completion
We want to be ready to identify the efforts of each student. Every contribution our students make will impact and guide the design of what our classroom will become.
Thank you for visiting,
Mr. Sakamoto
